The 17th Century Lute Music Album
Crazy Love Vol II. Difficult to say there is a best song on Paul Simon's Graceland, but this would be a contender. I had just turned 11 when Graceland was released and I think my parents bought it as a joint present for each other that Christmas. I used to listen to 'I Know What I Know' over and over, the backing vocals were genius, then I'd flip the record and listen over and over to Crazy Love Vol II. Now and again The Boy In The Bubble may get one play amongst the repetition, because of the lyrics and was probably the first time I noticed lyrics.
This amazing song, Crazy Love Vol II, has become a rather unfortunate association for me. The fantastic hook "I don't want no part of this crazy love" plays in my head every time I cringe at something Christian which makes my toes curl.
Christians sometimes behave like stereotypical characters, and stereotypical characters are based on actuals. Generalisations, sure, but based on some form of evidence. I don't headbang to the heavier music that I love, or wear my jeans half way down my cheeks to show my undercrackers because I enjoy snowboarding, nor do I use a rainbow strap on my guitar because I am a Christian (even though I was given one from those who know my strong feelings towards the colourful devils). I'm not saying I've got it right, if I have and everyone was the same as me, the world would be a duller place (it wouldn't really, it would be perfect), but I am saying the certain representatives and ambassadors that catch our attention are not always representative.
The lyrics are a double negative, "I don't want no part of this crazy love"...the post will end here, I'm not even going to contemplate wanting that crazy love.
