The Over-Egged Extravagant Egocentric Double Album

Rock and pop stars, actors and actresses, these millionaires frequently ask us to give to charity. I don't like to see the wealthy asking for money. It just seems wrong to ask someone in a less fortunate position to give. Or to ask a child to hand over their pocket money, an immaterial amount to a wealthy adult. Some of the methods used, such as emotional blackmail, are clearly not right. However, making us aware of need is right and encouraging the young to give is definitely a good thing. Thankfully the children don't see some of the methods through my cynical eyes.

I prefer the wisdom of a child. It doesn't seem right that I compare myself with others then weigh up whether or not I should give. Just because others are better off or have more free time, they shouldn't have to cover for me in someway. It doesn't seem right that if I see that they spent 'x' amount on somethingorother I should think this would have been wiser given to charity. It's none of my business what they do.

My reason for giving should be based purely on whether there is a need. And if I give my time or money I should be a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7). I would not want to receive anything from anyone if it was tainted with the slightest hint of resentment or reluctancy. And nor would a charity.
